Some of what we build on Clio

Intake to consults

We turn web and phone inquiries into intake summaries, and your team runs conflict checks and decides which ones to book as consults.

Deadlines on the matter

We draft court dates and deadlines from your documents, and an attorney confirms each one on the matter.

Time and billing

We tidy time entries and draft invoices for your billing team to review.

Client updates

We draft client status updates from your matter notes for an attorney to approve.

Document intake

We read, name and file client documents to the right matter.

Answers for your staff

Staff get answers to internal procedure questions from your own playbooks.

Clio lets an outside developer build a private app for a single firm, and that is how Sastre connects to it. Clio’s developer documentation says private apps can be built in house or on behalf of a Clio user by a third party developer, that Clio Manage private apps are not reviewed by Clio, and that apps of any kind are unavailable on the EasyStart tier. On any other paid Clio plan, we build a private app for your firm, and each person who uses it authorizes it through Clio’s own sign in.

Through that app, workflows can read matters, contacts and calendars and write back the notes, tasks and time entries your team approves. Clio can also send webhooks when records change, so a workflow can begin when a matter is updated or a document arrives. On EasyStart, we work from Clio’s exports and from browser steps your firm approves, and each drafted change waits for your staff to enter it.

The handoffs around Clio are where firms lose time. New inquiries arrive through Clio Grow forms, phone calls and email and still need to become matters; court filings come in through electronic filing portals and get retyped into the calendar; and billing runs across Clio and an accounting system like QuickBooks. Job postings at Clio firms describe legal assistants downloading pleadings, calendaring deadlines and then updating case information in Clio by hand.

On a Clio private app, the workflows can include:

  • New inquiries are summarized from the call or form, possible conflicts are listed for an attorney to clear, and a consult is offered once they do.

  • Deadlines in court notices are drafted onto the right matter for your docketing staff or attorney to confirm.

  • Time entries are drafted from the work your team actually did, and an attorney reviews them before they reach an invoice.

  • When a matter moves forward, a client update is drafted from its notes and sent only after an attorney approves it.

  • Documents that clients email to the firm are named by type and filed to the matter they belong to.

Clio also sells its own AI, which works inside Clio. Our workflows sit around Clio, linking it to your phones, inbox and accounting with approvals by email and an action log your firm owns, and they do not require your firm to use any AI today.

Under ABA Formal Opinion 512, your firm decides when a client’s informed consent is needed before confidential information goes into a tool, so we document each tool and data flow for that decision.

For a B2B company, we built call debriefs that turn call notes into a structured deal review backed by the buyer’s own words and save it to the CRM record. In Clio, the same step turns a consultation call into a structured note on the matter for the attorney.

How we connect to Clio

Each account allows different access, so we confirm yours in the workflow map and design around it.

Official API

On paid plans other than EasyStart, approved updates post straight to Clio through a private app for your firm.

Reports and exports

Where the API is closed or limited, scheduled reports and exports supply the data, and we queue each change for your team to enter.

Approved automation

Where neither works, we use browser automation that your team approves step by step.

Questions about Clio and AI

Can a developer build a Clio app just for our firm?

Yes, Clio allows private apps built for a single firm by an outside developer, and Clio Manage private apps go live without a Clio review. We build yours on that basis, and each user authorizes it through Clio.

Can you connect if we are on EasyStart?

Clio does not offer apps or integrations on EasyStart, so we work from exports and from browser steps your firm approves. If a move to another plan would remove manual steps, the workflow map shows the difference.

Do clients need to consent before AI touches their Clio matters?

The answer varies with the tool, your engagement letter and your state’s rules. ABA Formal Opinion 512 asks for informed consent before confidential information goes into a tool that can learn from it, so we give your firm a written record of each tool and data flow.

How is client information in Clio protected?

Each workflow gets only the access its steps need, and your firm can revoke the app’s access at any time. Under our providers’ business terms, client data is never used for model training, every action is logged, and we delete the client data we hold 30 days after an engagement ends.

What does a Clio project cost?

It starts with a free working session of about an hour on one Clio workflow, such as intake or deadlines. Next comes a workflow map, which ends in a fixed quote for your Clio build with the map’s fee credited toward it.

Let’s tailor Clio to the way your team works.
